Online workshop Online workshop

Everyone complains about taxes—especially property taxes. Not many people understand what assessors do and how it affects your tax bill. This workshop will address questions you may have about the assessment process, what we do, how and why we do it. We'll give you an inside look at what we do and how the Board of Assessors fits in city government. By the end of this course, we hope you will have learned enough to understand why taxes change, ensure you are getting a "fair shake" and take action if you disagree with your assessment. We will also discuss exemptions for which you might qualify that can lower your tax bill. We will cover topics such as:

  • What assessors do and what they don't or can't do
  • Where can you find assessment information
  • What is a property record card and how to use it
  • Why tax increases aren't uniform across properties
  • How to compare your property taxes to other properties
  • Different types of property tax exemptions
  • Deadlines for exemption and abatement applications

This is an opportunity to meet the Greenfield assessors and for the assessors to meet you and answer questions. Presentation materials in PDF format will be available to all registrants.

Presented By...

The workshop will be presented by the Assessor staff including Chief Assessor, Christina Summers, and the two elected members of the Board of Assessors, Jim Geisman (Chair) and Chuck Green (Clerk). They were both trained as engineers, Chuck worked at GM for 20 years. Jim worked as a management consultant for 35+ years.
