Ain't No Stopping Us Now

Ain't No Stopping Us Now

Wednesday, September 30, 24 p.m.

Award-winning educator, sexuality researcher and podcaster Jane Fleishman, PhD, MEd, MS, CSE delivers an egaging talk Ain't No Stopping Us Now: The Pleasures and Pitfalls of Sexuality as We Age. As we age, we know ourselves and our bodies better. Yet societal taboos against discussing sexuality—especially when it comes to older adults—can make these discussions awkward. Fleishman says there “ain’t no stopping us now” as we age sexually. Sexual challenges may increase distress but if we can embrace the awkward, we will find our way to new heights of sexual pleasure. This workshop will offer a unique opportunity for frank discussion. As a seasoned sexuality professional, our presenter will apply current research and resources, offer tips and toys for older adults. And we will have ample time for questions and confidential discussion about sexuality-related issues. Join us for an enjoyable and unique afternoon! RSVP requested.

Jane Fleishman earned her PhD at Widener University Center for Human Sexuality Studies at the age of 62. On a mission to promote sexual wellness in older adults, she is particularly concerned about LGBTQ elders and elders of color. Her curious nature led to her latest accomplishment, a Nautilus Book Award winner The Stonewall Generation: LGBTQ Elders on Sex, Activism, and Aging. She co-hosts a regular podcast on sex, Our Better Half, about sex in the second half of life and recently completed a popular TEDx talk, Is It OK for Grandma to Have Sex?

Common GOOD Project

Common GOOD Project

Wednesday, October 21, 10:5511:45 a.m.

What if you could spend a few hours learning from teenagers—and letting them learn from you? Four Rivers Charter Public School and Greenfield Community College are bringing two generations together for the Common GOOD (Generations Opening Opportunities for Dialogue), a six-session exploration of character, community and what it means to live well with others. We'll share stories, tackle some thought-provoking questions, practice skills like listening and navigating disagreement and finish by working together on a community service project. We're looking for curious adults who enjoy conversation, have some life experience to share and aren't afraid to learn something new from a teenager! Participants are expected to commit to meetings on October 21, November 11, December 16, January 20, March 17 and April 18. RSVP to join.

Carrie Baker: A History of Women's Suffrage

Carrie Baker: A History of Women's Suffrage

Thursday, October 22, 78:30 p.m.

Generations of women fought for your rght to vote; now we must defend that vote—and use it! First proposed by the 1848 Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments, women's demand for the right to vote was controversial—even scandalous in some quarters. Suffragists fought for 72 years to achieve the 19th Amendment in 1920, but astonishingly, women's voting rights are once again up for debate in some quarters. In this talk, Smith College Professor of American Studies Carrie Baker explains the history and current challenges to women's voting rights and how women are fighting to maintain our right to vote. Free and open to the public, RSVP requested. Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
