Our civil rights and civil liberties are at grave risk. In the past, our nation has faced attacks on our rights and liberties and ultimately not succumbed. Where do we stand now? In his talk, attorney Bill Newman will discuss the assault on voting rights; the dangers created by the consolidation of power in the executive branch; threats to immigrants, persons of color, and marginalized communities; the roles of the courts, Congress, and we the people; and how state laws and constitutions can and do protect fundamental rights.
