March 2026 marks the 90th anniversary of the devastating 1936 Connecticut River Flood. Historian and emergency management professional Josh Shanley will return to the Senior Symposium to explore this historic disaster and its long-term impact. Focusing on the Massachusetts stretch of the river—with special attention to the Millers and the Deerfield Rivers—Shanley shares rarely seen images and stories while connecting past events to present-day challenges, including aging flood infrastructure and climate-driven threats to regional resilience around Hadley and Northampton in particular.
