Join the WaitlistTerry Jenoure will present a solo performance and discussion highlighting excerpts from three Performance Memoirs: Lydia on the Top Floor, My Bronx and Pelala. Combining composed and improvised violin and vocal music, poetry, found objects and her handmade dolls, she offers glimpses into her family life and early New York City upbringing in the Bronx. A discussion about her art-making process and most recent projects will follow the presentation.
Presented By...
Terry Jenoure, composer, violinist, vocalist and educator, was born and raised in the Bronx to a Puerto Rican and Jamaican family. She began violin study at age eight and came of age under the tutelage of innovators within the avant-garde Black Arts movement. Improvisation and interdisciplinarity are hallmarks of her work, revealed through performances at venues throughout the U.S. and Eastern and Western Europe. With master’s and doctoral degrees in Education, for 30 years she spearheaded UMass’ Augusta Savage Gallery as its director and also served as National Faculty at Lesley University. Her arts-based research includes projects in Mexico, India, Colombia and South Africa that focus on the use of arts for conflict mediation. Jenoure has been awarded composing grants from the NEA and the Creative Capital Foundation, among others.
