Learn to Balboa

Balboa is a partner dance developed in southern California during the swing era and can be danced to a wide variety of music, but is known to be particularly well suited for faster tempos. Sometimes called “a dancer’s dance,” it relies heavily on good leading and following skills. This class is designed to give you a solid understanding of the foundational moves of modern Balboa/Balboa-Swing. Although not required, previous dance experience will be helpful, along with being comfortable dancing in close embrace with a partner. No partner is necessary. We do recommend you have a pair of shoes that can slide relatively freely on the dance floor.

Christine LeBel and partner Mark met in swing dance classes in southern California many years ago and have been lucky enough to take lessons from some of the original swing dancers and many of the top dancers of the modern era. They are two of the original founders of the Lindy League of Western Massachusetts (which offers regular dance events at which they have taught for many years) and they particularly love teaching people new to the swing-dance scene.
