This hands-on workshop introduces students to the full process of black-and-white film photography — from shooting and developing their own film to making prints in the darkroom. Held off-campus at a working film lab in Holyoke, MA, the course offers a rare opportunity to explore analog photography in a fully equipped space. All chemistry and equipment are provided. Students are responsible for bringing their own black-and-white film and darkroom paper.

Jonathan Davila is a film photographer, educator, and owner of iLA Film Lab in Holyoke, MA. He teaches analog photography and darkroom printing at Springfield Technical Community College and regularly hosts hands-on workshops out of his own lab space, focusing on black-and-white film development, darkroom techniques, and experimental processes like film soup and solarization. His mission is to create accessible spaces where people can learn, experiment, and engage with the physical side of photography.
