Since the turn of the 20th century, Greenfield’s landscape has changed drastically, most notably the changes on East Main Street. The street has transformed from an elm-lined dirt road to the commercial hub it is today. With the loss of the historic houses that once occupied the street, Greenfield has lost substantial parts of its history. This guided walking tour will draw attention to the history of East Main Street—from ex-governor William B. Washburn's estate to the servants like Ada Hallock that kept these mansions operating.

Jillian Gochinski is a Greenfield native and current undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst. She is a history major and anthropology minor interested in pursuing public history.
