Aging in Place: How the Internet of Things Supports Independence
The main goal of this workshop is to introduce older adults to the Internet of Things (IoT) and demonstrate how it can support their independence in various aspects of life, including medical, social, environmental, and security management. The workshop will provide an overview of IoT, hands-on experience with selected devices, and problem-solving sessions to address common concerns related to the use of technology.
About the Presenter
Lili Dwight is an entrepreneur and engineer with a passion for creating innovative solutions that enhance safety and quality of life. Following decades of work in the field of aging as a Chief Information Officer, Lili started Galactic Smarties to develop tech that takes the “dis” out of disability. She is currently developing FireGuide, a cutting-edge fire safety system designed to be a personal trainer for fire safety. Her work is characterized by a deep understanding of technology and a commitment to making it accessible and beneficial to all, regardless of age or tech-savviness.
Kate MacGregor is a technical support consultant who has more years of experience with Macs, PCs and other electronic devices than she would like to admit. She was employed by Hampshire College for 15 years as a senior technical support specialist, and recently retired to set up a small consulting business, working with clients who have home-based personal computing issues. She especially enjoys working one-on-one with clients to solve tech problems in a collaborative, supportive and friendly manner.
