Transform your perspective on "trash" and become a steward of the earth. This workshop demystifies the composting process, showing you how to heal your soil and keep organic matter out of landfills.
Composting is more than just a garden chore; it is an act of environmental regeneration:
- Landfill Diversion: Organic matter in garbage creates toxic gases; we have a responsibility to manage our waste better.
- Soil Healing: Regenerate and inoculate your soil with diverse microorganisms that unlock nutrients and balance pH.
- Resource Creation: Turn "waste" into a nutrient-rich organic material that feeds the life beneath our feet.
We will explore various techniques to fit your space, climate, and time:
- Thermophilic (Hot Composting): High-heat piles that kill weed seeds and foster diverse biology quickly.
- Static (Cold Composting): A slow, "no-turn" approach for those with more time than energy.
- Vermicomposting: Using worm bins for efficient indoor or small-space nutrient recycling.
- In-Place Solutions:
- Lasagna Layering: Building fertility directly in garden boxes.
- Hugelkultur: Managing large biomass (logs/branches) to create self-watering mounds, adapted for both wet and dry climates.
