Alan C. Swedlund is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of Anthropology at UMass Amherst. His primary research interests are in the history of health and disease in the US, and particularly New England. He has written numerous articles on epidemics and pandemics. He co-edited Plagues and Epidemics: Infected Spaces Past and Present with Ann Herring (2010), and Beyond Germs Native Depopulation in North America (2015) with Catherine Cameron and Paul Kelton.
